Irate Engineer Faces Equipment Operator's Mechanical Wrath

My first job after graduating college involved monitoring earthwork activities at large construction sites. I witnessed my share of on-site altercations, pranks, even a sinister port-o-potty stunt that still haunts me today. Luckily, I wasn't involved in any of these antics, and it's likely because I was keenly aware of the ramifications of upsetting someone who runs heavy equipment for 12 hours a day.

"Gallopin' Gertie" - The Tacoma Narrows Bridge Collapse

 

In arguably the most dramatic bridge engineering failure in history, the Tacoma Narrows Bridge plunged to the depths of the Puget Sound on November 7, 1940 during a windstorm. The horrific collapse forever changed how engineers design suspension bridges and ultimately led to the safer suspension spans we see today.
